June Coke , July 29, 1929 — March 11, 2019

June M. Coke was born July 20, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the oldest child born to Launcelot and Myrtle Coke. Two brothers, Launcelot Jr. and Hugh George preceded her in death as infants.

June began attending St. James A.M.E. church as a child and remained a member in good standing until her passing. In 1948 she graduated from the old Central High School. .

She began working for the Cleveland Public School System in 1950 as a Clerk at East Tech, Max Hayes, and John Hay High Schools. She retired in 1995 after 45 years of service to the school system. This involvement with the schools, and the children who crossed her path, triggered a long career in education and teaching that began with evening classes at Kent State University.

June worked during the day and commuted to Kent at night. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree, and went on to receive a Masters degree in Education from Cleveland State University. In 1965 June began her teaching career.

She was an exceptional teacher, firm and generous, with a great passion for reading. She instilled that passion in her classroom because she knew that reading was one of the keys to success. June was very organized, dedicated, and she excelled in teaching gifted children.

Through her 30 years in the classroom she touched the lives of many children and their parents. June loved her family and friends. Besides being an avid reader, she enjoyed bowling, travel, and playing cards.

She had a love for animals, and during her adult life found special joy in raising and loving each of her dogs. . June leaves to mourn a host of family and friends.
