Karl “Charlie” Charles Fritchie, 83, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on March 10, 1936, in Lincoln, Nebraska to George and Ruby Oma (Standley) Fritchie. He was raised in Lincoln where he attended public school and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1954. On December 26, 1958, Charlie was united in marriage to Lilly Scott at the East Lincoln Christian Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Charlie worked as an auto body repair man for most of his life. It was when he was working for Pete Leikam that Charlie began his passion for racing. In 1969, Pete Leikam took over ownership of Midwest Speedway and Charlie spent many following years at the race track.

Charlie had a deep passion for racing, fixing cars and rebuilding engines. He retired from the auto body business and moved to Humboldt, Nebraska where he and Lilly have lived ever since. Charlie was an active member of the Humboldt community where he served for 13 years for the Humboldt Housing Board.

He enjoyed his time with friends, family and the occasional projects with neighbors. Charlie passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at his home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of eighty-three years, one month, and twenty-seven days. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Fritchie and brothers-in-law Don Te Selle, Earl Scott and Ronald Scott.

Charlie is survived by his partner Lilly Scott of Humboldt, NE; children: Jackie of California, Darrell Fritchie and wife Kathy of Casa Grande, AZ; Lore Wright of Dickson, TN; Leigh O’Neil and husband Gerry of Riverside, CA; Sherri Gies of Austin, TX; a sister Bonnie Te Selle of Texas, sisters-in-law Charlene Fritchie of Humboldt, NE; Elaine Falgione and husband John of Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law Larry Scott and wife Connie of Lincoln, NE; Merl Scott and wife Beth of Lincoln, NE; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at The Christian Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.

Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary. Inurnment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
