Katharine Weimer Filipello, 75, of Elgin, Ill. died on October 2, 2018 surrounded by her family. Born May 4, 1943 in West Chicago, Ill.

, she was the eldest daughter of Francis and Helen Weimer. Katharine attended St. Mary’s School and West Chicago Community High School. She was an excellent student who appreciated literature and enjoyed studying dance for many years.

Her sensitive temperament and expressive ability led to many roles in high school drama and musical productions. Katharine married and raised her family in Elgin, Illinois. She remarried in April 2003 to Henry “Hank” Filipello, her loving husband with whom she spent the last 25 years.

Katharine brought beauty to her surroundings and to the lives of those who surrounded her. She loved lush, fragrant flowers in inviting gardens, a well decorated home full of sentimental treasures, and the stirrings of a Broadway musical or professional ballet. She appreciated a fine meal and a decadent dessert, preferably chocolate.

Most importantly, she loved the people in her life with all her heart and treasured her moments with them always. Katharine is survived by her devoted husband, Hank, her sister Virginia Weimer (Lance Hodes), her children Shawn Conway and Melissa Conway (Matt Mahoney), her nieces Cora Weimer-Hodes, Kimberly Steinke (nee Brown), and Sheri Richards (nee Brown), and her beloved grandchildren, Lucas and Graham Mahoney. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Helen Weimer.

The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care and support provided by Journeycare Hospice in Barrington, Ill. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago (One block north of Washington St. & Main St). Funeral services on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in West Chicago.
