She is a long-time faithful member of Greater Harvest Church of Deliverance under the leadership of Pastor Alton Manning of Varnado, La. She found joy in teaching Sunday School class, singing in the choir, helping with the youth and serving where needed.

She loved traveling with the Pastor and church on many out-of-state church fellowships as she served and grew in her knowledge. After attending Bogalusa High School, she worked many years at Bogalusa Medical Center and Crown Zellerbach and Lakeview Hospital in Covington, LA, she married her husband Johnny Ree Weary and raised her children in the Bogalusa community where she lived until being called into glory. Like her belated Brother, Coach Mike, she had a love for baseball and a passion for youth.

She dedicated over fifteen years coaching the Sunset Acres Tigers. She mentored youth who lived and grew up in the Sunset acres and surrounding community. She had compassion for children and they all gravitated to her, because she was fun and a place of comfort.

She became the community mother of many young boys and girls who she watched grow up into young adults. Those same youth refer to her as Momma Kat adults. In the 90’s, she was named Coach of the Year by the Bogalusa Little League because of her mentorship, commitment and more so because of her love and kindness for the children she nurtured and motivated.

Momma Kat shared in laugher, and often validated that she was being listened to when speaking, asking, “ya hear me? ” to both her children, family and friends. She was unorthodox, she shared some of the same hobbies as the young people.

She loved Pac Man, dancing, being on the computer and connecting to many Facebook friends where she often shared encouraging words and scriptures. She loved cooking, spoiling her dog, Simon, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her quiet time, she studied the Bible and read books.

She loved the scriptures and her favorite verse Psalms 34 “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth”. In her days of being in discomfort, she continued to bless the Lord, praising Him in song. She encouraged herself reflecting on the words of one of her favorite gospel songs entitled, “You brought me through this, you brought me through that Lord I’m grateful”.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, her loving husband, Johnny Ree Weary (Black), four children she loved unconditionally: Cedric (Maketha) Harrington (Peanut), Kenyate (Judy) Harrington (Stumpy), Lashanda Harrington (Tweety) (Lashanda Kennedy), and Byron (Latia Myers) Harrington (Lucky); her Niece and Nephew she raised: Sharonda Roberts, Damion Robinson, Jessica McClinton, and Le’shune McClinton. She also leaves to mourn Damion Moss, Seletha, Yolanda, and Tamira. She loved and cherished her eight grandchildren: Kenyate Jr., Keyuna, Ken’trevious, Samaj, Cedriyah, Naviyah, Cedric and Michael.

She leaves in bereavement one sister, Kimberly McClinton, one brother, Andrew Harrington, one uncle, Willie (Beris) McCray, two aunt, Josephine McCray and Hilda Ann Jones; a special sister, Sandra McCray Forbes “Mini Me”; a special cousin, Sharmika McCray Godbolt; sisters-in-laws: Hazel Harrington, Juanita Spikes, Estelle Jones, and her Brother-in-laws: Ellis (Doris) Weary and Johnny (Fat) Weary (Arlene). She also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, youth, church family and friends who will forever treasure her remembrances. As her family and friends mourn, her last words of love echoes in their hearts.

Her husband is reminded that she would always said, “I love my husband”. Her children recall her encouraging words and how she would say, “I’m proud of my boy! ” She enjoyed her children, often asking “Where my oldest at?

” She enjoyed their barbecuing and driving her to Bingo. One of her church Sisters remembers where her heart remained, stating, “Sis. Kat, loved her family”.

Above all, its Kat’s reminding words that she always quoted that will resonate with her friends and families as her memories live on, “This is not my home, I’m just passing through”.
