Katherine’s Obituary Katherine L. (Rask) Redding, age 66 of Golden Valley on November 24th after a long illness with COPD and lung cancer. Born September 27, 1952, to Carolyn Nelson Rask and Oscar J. (O.J.) Rask, Jr., she was preceded in death by her father, O.J. and brother, Douglas Ward Rask. She is survived by her mother and brother, Mark, of Golden Valley, and sister, Julia, of Los Angeles, CA.

Kathi’s life centered on two strong interests, music and nursing. From junior high through college, her lovely singing voice led her to participate in a variety of choirs and musicals. She was an accomplished pianist, who played the harp and volunteered as a Candy Striper at North Memorial Hospital.

Music led her to Wartburg College, Waverly, IA and United States International University, San Diego, CA. When her marriage to Clinton Redding ended in divorce, she decided to pursue a nursing degree at North Hennepin Junior College. After graduation, she worked in Houston, TX hospitals and clinical settings.

A mentor there suggested she work with him on the clinical trial for Foscarnet which was a ground-breaking drug for AIDS patients. He tutored her in the early stages and she later became a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP). That background led to monitoring clinical research projects in North and South America, as well as Europe.

It also produced many Frequent Flyer Miles which she used to host her family on a memorable Caribbean vacation. When she learned she could live anywhere within 30 minutes of a major airline, she returned to Minnesota. She continued to work, until declining health caused her to take an early retirement.

Memorials are preferred to Habitat for Humanity or Lucy Laney Community School, 3333 Penn Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55412. A memorial service will be held January 26, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel, 3888 W Broadway, followed by luncheon at Brookview Golf Course, Golden Valley.
