Obituary for Katherine M. Whalen Katherine “Sis” M. Whalen, 94, a longtime resident of Wassaic, NY, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, CT. Mrs. Whalen, with her husband, owned and operated Howard Whalen TV Sales and Service in Wassaic, NY for over 20 years. Born on March 21, 1924 in Belmont, NY she was the daughter of the late Edward Dunn, Sr. and Mary (Sears) Dunn.
On February 5, 1948 in Chateauguay, NY she married Howard J. Whalen who predeceased her on March 19, 2012. Mrs. Whalen was a former member of the Tri-Mountain Squares in Pine Plains, NY. She was also a life member of the Wassaic Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Amenia, NY.
Her hobbies were reading, traveling, painting landscapes, gardening and cooking. She made many wonderful meals for family and friends. She also enjoyed going out to lunch with her many friends.
Mrs. Whalen is survived by a daughter, Eula Arno and her husband, Ronald, of Wassaic, NY; a grandson, Scott Arno and his wife, Jennifer, of Lagrangeville, NY; a great granddaughter, Nora Rose Arno and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Whalen was predeceased by a son, Bruce Whalen on March 6, 2012 and two brothers, Edward Dunn, Jr. and Elmer Dunn. Burial will be private at South Amenia Cemetery in Wassaic, NY.
