Kathleen aka Kathy Giles Dillon completed her earthly mission Thursday, December 6, 2018. Greeted on the other side of the veil by her Father in Heaven, along with her parents, two children, and family and friends who were there waiting for her arrival. She was born December 14, 1939 in Ogden, Utah on her parents first wedding anniversary.
She was the eldest of three children born to Arthur F. and Norine Randall Giles. Growing up on the family dairy farm in Milton, Morgan County, she was the apple of her dad’s eye, a challenge to her mother and a terror to her brothers, Bruce and Ray. She grew up in a strong family setting, with a lot of interaction with her many Giles and Randall aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kathleen would rather work with her father outside doing farm work than inside the home with her mother doing housework. She particularly hated washing dishes. Her mother was Relief Society President for years, so she never missed Primary, Sunday School, Mutual or Sacrament Meeting, even if she didn’t feel well.
Kathleen was bright and intelligent in school, so much so, that it gave her ample time for she and her friends to think up tricks to play on their unsuspecting teachers. She played the clarinet in the band, participated in athletics and was the editor of the year book staff in 1957. She belonged to the Miltonahs Riding Club.
She graduated from Morgan High School in 1958 and immediately moved to Ogden. She was self-supporting from that time on working for the Federal Government. She had a restless spirit moving to West Warren, North Ogden, and finally settling down in Riverdale.
Her brothers grew weary moving her from one place to another for a number of years. Kathleen married Warren L. Dillon September 3, 1965. They welcomed Patrick, Marti LeAn and Amy Marie to their family before divorcing in 1980.
Patrick and Marti preceded her in death. Kathleen was quite social and musically inclined. She sang with the Sweet Adelines.
Kathleen liked working swing shift. She found that shift most accommodating for her to juggle family life and all other happenings, often going two or three days at a time without sleeping. Kathleen loved Christmas.
She always gave her family the most lavish Christmas she could afford. She loved sports and followed various family members in all their sporting activities. She loved reading, novel after novel, and watching old western movies.
She never shut her television off. It ran night and day. She enjoyed teaching the three year olds in Primary during the later part of her life and loved the kind ward members who helped her get to and from church in the Riverdale 6th Ward.
Of all the things she ever did or acclaims she may have made, it was the title of a loving grandmother to Joslyn and Xavier Pust that brought her the most joy and pleasure. She truly gave them her heart. Right next to family, Kathleen loved horse racing, flat track and in particular Chariot Racing.
All of Norine’s children loved their Uncle Homer Randall. He loved horses, horse racing, and because they loved him, naturally they grew to love horse racing. He ran a team for the span of at least 20 years, which they followed and helped on racing days.
After Uncle Homer died unexpectedly in 1996 her brother Ray bought a team of horses to race, Bruce and his sons Blake, David and Clay worked the horses to get them in shape to run for several seasons. Kathleen was their biggest fan. She sat in the grandstands, cheering at the top of her lungs for them and anyone else she chose to cheer for.
She loved it so much even after they retired their team, she kept actively involved with the horse racing club serving as Treasurer for Wasatch Slopes Chariot Racing up until about two years ago when health issues forced her to relinquish her job that she loved so dearly. During the last year of her life Kathleen received special care at Mt. Ogden Health and Rehab and from the Family Tree in Morgan, Utah.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the staff at the Family Tree and the kind and attentive care they gave her along with Dr. Gary Holland and Comfort Works Hospice. Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Amy Marie (Joe) Perry; grandchildren, Joslyn and Xavier Pust; brothers, Howard Ray Giles, Arthur Bruce (Evelyn) Giles and their four children, Blake (Jen) Giles, Marlene (Whit) Judd, David (Adriana) Giles and Clay (Jenny) Giles and their extended families. She was preceded in death by her parents and two children.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Walker Mortuary, 45 West 200 North, Morgan. Visitation will be at the mortuary one hour prior to services.
