She was a proud supporter of her community, her church, her family and her OU SOONERS! ! Kathy’s volunteer efforts included being a Hospice Volunteer, a graduate of the Ponca City Leadership Team, and a member of the Board of the Friends of the Ponca City Library.

Anywhere she was needed, she would go. Kathy actively attended the Ponca Playhouse and enjoyed RSVP and served on each of their Boards, respectively. Kathy was also in Kiwanis and served as treasurer.

She had been actively talking about the new Ponca City Arts district in downtown and was so proud of the progress. Known as “Baps” or “Bappy” to many, her interest in other people and their lives kept her in touch with people and it meant so much to her. Recently, Kathy enjoyed working on her high school class reunion to stay in touch with friends from many years ago.

Her sense of humor was quite evident as she started a “Sassy Lady” Facebook group. Regularly, she would post cartoons and sayings that gave you an uplifting laugh; It was “from one goddess to another goddess”. Kathy was a knowledgeable and voracious reader – although we know not ALL of her books were educational!

Kathy’s church involvement was extensive. At First Christian Church she was in the Challenger’s Sunday School Class, Guild Women’s Group, sang in the choir, and played handbells. Kathy also helped with the JYF youth group.

She was a church elder and a Moderator of the Board of the church as well. Her smiling face was always a joy. She loved children, especially her nephew, Chris, who was the light of her life.

Many children held a special place in her heart as well, even as they grew up and became adults. Kathy’s positive attitude was an inspiration to all and she didn’t let the challenges she faced keep her down. An obstacle was just something to overcome.

All of Kathy’s friends, who are many, were her family as well. One of Kathy’s last Facebook posts read, ” If we could spread love as quickly as we spread hate and negativity, what an amazing world we would live in”. Kathy is survived by her sister, Karen Cardin and husband Jim and nephew, Chris Cardin all of Conway, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jerry Turner, grandparents, Clyde and Naomi Turner and grandparents, Norman and Zeda Frye. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to First Christian Church at 210 N 5th St, Ponca City, OK 74601.
