Preston, 74, passed away on January 20, 2019 at his home in Kansas City, Mo. He was born November 22, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to Cecil L. Preston and Dorothy M. Preston. Kenneth grew up in Kansas City, Mo.
and graduated from Manual High School in 1964. In 1964, he joined the Air Force and served for three years as a fireman in England and achieved the rank of Sergeant E5. He then began working for Associate Wholesale Grocery as a warehouseman and retired after 30 years in 2000.
Kenneth loved his Church and would do anything he was asked to do to help out, and always with a smile. He volunteered in the St. Therese Food Pantry for 20 years and regularly took aluminum cans for cash recycling to offer a little extra help to support the pantry. He looked forward every year to helping with the Christmas Basket Program that helped more than 250 families provide for groceries and gifts for family members.
Kenneth was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 14750. He was committed to deepening his spiritual journey and became a CSJ Associate to extend the mission and spirit of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondolet in his everyday life through prayer and service. Kenneth lived his life to the fullest.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. Cooking and listening to music with his granddaughter were the of joy and good times. He loved to shoot pool, lift weights, play dominoes, and plant and nurture flowers.
Kenneth was an avid reader of books and loved learning about history and he enjoyed following the news of any kind. He also loved the latest electronics. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Julaine, children, Kenneth L Preston II (Luqrecia), grandchildren Aaryanna Preston and Breanna Preston, sisters, Marva Abrought, Cecila Lidge (Charles), Darlene Shepard and Charlene Mack and a host of family, friends and his St. Therese Little Flower Family. Services will be held at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 5814 Euclid Ave. Kansas City, Mo.
64130 on Monday, January 28, 2019. Visitation will be held from 9am to 10am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 am. A Repast Luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Therese Little Flower Food Pantry. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to St. Therese Little Flower Parish, Pallative and Hospice Care.
