Kenneth’s Obituary Rock Rapids, IA Kenneth Sohl age 85 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday March 25th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hull, IA, with Rev. Aaron Deutsch officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Hull, IA.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 24th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Kenneth Paul Sohl was born December 22, 1933 to Paul and Elise (Breuer) Sohl. He was raised in the Hull area and attended Hull School.

On August 19, 1954 he was united in marriage to Elaine Techen at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hull, Iowa. They lived for a short period in Rock Rapids, Iowa; he joined the U.S. Army Artillery branch, moving to Fort Smith, Arkansas then to Lawton, Oklahoma. The couple moved back to the Hull area in 1957 to farm, then moved near Doon and farmed for 35 years.

During that time they opened their home to foster children. After Ken retired from farming, they moved to the Marshalltown area and worked at Quakerdale with troubled youth and then drove truck for Cessford Paving . Ken retired in 2010, and moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa to enjoy fun times with his brothers.

He was an active and faithful member at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hull, IA and Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Marshalltown, IA; the Gideons International; served on the boards of Village Unlimited, Lyon County Soil Conservation and was active in prison ministries. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. His family will forever remember and treasure the many memories and laughs they shared with their husband, dad and grandpa over the years.

He was a man that touched many hearts and will be missed by many. Ken is survived by Elaine, his wife of sixty-four years; a daughter Karla (Paul) Sherman, of Apple Valley, MN; a son Kelvin (Kathy Rodier) Sohl of Plymouth, MN; Three grandsons Wade (Kelly) Brenneman of Cambridge, MN, Bryce (Hedi) Brenneman of Farmington, MN, and Tyler Sohl of Portland OR; Five great-grand children, Jenna, Jaxon, Selah, Hanna and Piper; three step-grand children Emily Sherman (Caden, Logan), Brian Sherman, Sarah Sherman; three brothers, Robert (Verna) Sohl of Tulsa, OK, Harold (Darlene) Sohl of Kenmore, WA and Lawrence (Kathi) Sohl of Hull, IA; three sisters-in-law, Karen Sohl of Peru, IL, Shirley Techen of Sheldon, IA and Marlene Techen of George, IA; a brother-in-law Ruben Winter of Sheldon, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Elise Sohl; brothers, Alvin Sohl and Don Sohl; parents-in-law, Arlie and Ella Techen; brothers-in-law, Eldon Techen and Arnold Techen; sisters-in-law Arlene Sohl, Louise Winter; and nephews, Michael Sohl, Kevin Sohl, Rodney Winter and Douglas Techen.
