Kermit Gray Orr, Jr., was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 22, 1935 to the late Mr. Kermit Gray Orr, Sr., and Earnestine Lowman. Kermit attended Second Ward High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. After high school he attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he earned a degree in Music.

Later he was drafted into the US Army and served in the Army Reserve for 22 years. He worked as a Surgical Assistant in Tuskegee’s VA Hospital for many years. Upon retiring from the military he was employed by the US Postal Service and served as a letter carrier for 33 years.

Kermit is most notably known for being a renowned jazz musician. Kermit loved music and has played all over Alabama for various events and celebrations. He also played for Macedonia for a short period of time.

Kermit loved it when two of his grandsons showed an interest in playing the piano. He could often be found teaching them and sharing musical tips. Kermit met Margaret Howard in 1975 and they later married on March 13, 1980.

To this union was born one son. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Margaret Orr; one son Kermit B. Orr (Stacta); one daughter Vonda Farrar (Anthony); eight grandchildren (Corey, Chase, Myrail, Jaquavian, Amari, Mia Grace, AJ, and Arrington); one aunt Vivian Harrison; a special cousin Pamela Friday; a loving sister-in-law Morris A. Kelly; a dear friend Curry Glenn; and two devoted and caring neighbors Jeffery and Ethel McCoy. Of all of Kermit’s accomplishments, the most amazing is — Kermit accepted the Lord as his personal savior on February 26, 2017.

He also became a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Although we will miss him dearly we know that he is in the presence of the Lord. “SWEETS” DID IT HIS WAY!
