OBITUARY Kim Smith Kim Gilbert Smith age 66 of Mineola, TX formerly of Bedford, Tx. passed away, June 25, 2018. He was born on October 2, 1951 in Chicago, IL to Jack and Shirley Smith.

He proudly served 8 years in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as a Major on April 3rd, 1988. Kim graduated from SMU University on May 20th, 1973. He then attended University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Dallas graduating with a Doctorate of Medicine on June 4th 1977.

Kim completed a 3 yr Residency in Pediatrics at University of South Florida in June of 1980. He was elected a fellow of Pediatrics in 1984, and then became further specialized as a board certified Neonatologist in October of 1985. He practiced Neonatology until his retirement in 2016.

He spent his career as a very successful and respected neonatologist at Pediatrix Medical Group from 10/26/2087 until 9/4/2015. Per quote of his Medical Director Mike Stevener, “He was a well respected and distinguished neonatal colleague serving in the pediatric community of Fort Worth over several decades”. Kim had a passion for trees, ships, his Grandson Trenton, and Corvettes.

In 2015 he fulfilled his lifetime dream by owning each of the 7 Corvette body styles. He would be proud for you to view his first and last Corvettes which are displayed in the front of the Foust funeral home. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 23 years, Michelle Smith; children, Andrew and Erin Smith; stepchildren, Dustin and Kacie Woodward; Grandson, Trenton Smith; mother, Shirley Smith; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother Kirk Smith and his father Jack Smith. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Foust and Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Kim and his family request donations to Parkinson’s research at the Mayo Brain Support Network.
