OBITUARY Larene Karen DeHaan Hawkins Larene Karen DeHaan Hawkins was greeted by our loving Heavenly Father on September 9, 2018 after a life of love and service to others. Larene was born September 2, 1942 in Twin Falls Idaho, the only child of Lorenzo Carl DeHaan and Wilma Alberta Jensen. Larene was gifted with a great sense of humor, musical skills and an ability to recognize and understand the needs of others.

Whether family, friends, or strangers, many benefited from her love and care. She served as ward organist at age 16 and she used her musical skills to uplift others. She also served in other callings and many leadership roles throughout the years.

Larene met her husband Greg Rowley Hawkins when he moved into her neighborhood. They became high school sweethearts and married October 18, 1963. Larene is survived by her husband, Greg, and her children Darren (Ellen), Alan (Kim), Amy Wilcox (Adam) and Cathy Balfanz (Chad) and 18 grandchildren whom she loved and doted on.

Family meant everything to Larene. Larene valiantly fought many health problems over the years including numerous skin cancers, tumors, hemolytic anemia and lymphoma. She did so with grace, courage and her sense of humor that allowed her to meet and conquer these challenges.

Larene and Greg served an inner city mission in Salt Lake City 13th Ward. After living in the Holladay area for 35 years Larene and Greg moved to South Jordan. She made friends wherever she went.

Funeral services Friday, September 14th at 11:00 a.m. at River Ridge First Ward at 10124 South 1300 West, South Jordan, Utah. Friends and family may visit on Thursday evening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, and at the church Friday morning from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
