Obituary for Larry Richard Seifert Early Thursday morning, May 17, the Lord lifted to his heavenly home the soul of Larry Richard Seifert, following a 16 month battle with multiple myeloma. After 66 years, 9 months and 23 days of earthly life Larry went to see Jesus. Larry was born July 24, 1951 in Englewood, California.
He was the third child born to Douglas Wayne Seifert and Elaine Ann Eliason. In his early childhood, anemia together with a high fever left Larry disabled. The diagnosis was mental retardation, unteachable and recommendation for institutionalization.
As a young adult Larry relocated to Kennewick, Washington to live with his grandmother, Meta Eliason. She was a daily of support and encouragement to him working with him to achieve many unforeseen accomplishments. Both emphasized that through their struggles and successes to this end the Lord answered their prayers.
In Kennewick Larry gained a General Education Diploma, graduated with a General Education Certificate from Columbia Basin College, and obtained both a driver’s and pilot’s license. He worked as a custodian over three decades at Kamiakin High School, Kennewick. In retirement he volunteered, also as a custodian, at King of Kings Lutheran Church and Trios Hospital, Kennewick.
He presented many motivational lectures as schools and elsewhere, encouraging mentally disabled students, and highlighting tips and methods they and their teachers might use to better themselves educationally. Larry also enjoyed traveling the US and was fortunate even to tour in Europe, Israel and Egypt. The Triune God always was very near and dear to Larry.
He shared his Lord with others at every opportunity. On May 3, 1980 he received Christian baptism at King of Kings Lutheran Church. Two months later, July 13, 1980, he promised faithfulness to this same God and to the teachings of his Word in a rite of confirmation also at King of Kings Lutheran.
He was regular in listening to God’s Word and receiving the Sacrament and in worship services he considered it a privilege to serve his Lord as an usher. Larry is survived by four siblings; David (Esther) of Bend, OR and Mark (Patti), Karen and Cheryl of Los Angeles, CA. He is further survived by a sister-in-law Martha Seifert and other caring relatives and many supporting friends.
His grandparents, parents and brother Michael preceded him to Paradise. A Memorial Service for Larry will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2:00pm, at Apostolic Alliance Church (formerly King of Kings Lutheran), 5th & Edison Avenues, Kennewick. In lieu of flowers Larry preferred memorials offered in his name given to King of Kings Moving Ministry Forward, the ARC of Tri-Cities, Kennewick Food Bank or Union Gospel Mission.
“Then I heard a voice form heaven say, ‘Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. ’ ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them” Revelation 14:13.
