OBITUARY Lawrence Leo Oster July 8, 1927 – January 5, 2019 Lawrence Leo Oster, age 91, was born in New Orleans on July 8, 1927 and passed away on January 5, 2019. Larry is survived by his wife of 69+ years Dolores Janneck Oster. He is also survived by four children, Julie (Dr. Joseph E. Michalik, MD), Paulette (Captain J.V. Gale), Claudette (Karen Wetzel) and Lawrence Anthony Oster (Jeannette): four grandchildren Anthony Oster (Jennifer), Alina (Chris Carlin), Atrisha Oster, and Dr. Vanessa L. Gale, DC (Dr. David Bell, DC): and nine great-grandchildren, Billy Aguillard III, Leia Aguillard, Robin Oster, Isabella Carlin, Lahna Carlin, Tristan Wilson, Adrian Wilson, Alexah Oster and Rosalie Bell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie Oster, brother, Roger Oster and sister, Laura (Mick) O’Halloran. A graduate of Warren Easton High School, Lawrence attended LSU School of Engineering. He was a proud veteran of WWII and served in the U.S. Navy.

He retired from South Central Bell after 35 years and is a member of the West Bank Life Member Club of AT&T Pioneers. Larry lived in Chalmette for 38 years and was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church where he served as president and treasurer of their usher society, as a Boy Scout leader and as chairman of the beer booth for their Tomato Festival. He received the Order of St. Louis Medal from the Archdiocese of New Orleans for his many years of service to Our Lady of Prompt Succor Parish.

After Katrina, he moved to Algiers and was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish where he served as an usher at their Saturday vigil mass and was a faithful participant in their Monday Morning Rosary Group. More recently, Lawrence enjoyed attending mass at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center. Lawrence’s favorite hobby was fishing out of Delacroix Island and Hopedale.

He gifted family and friends with fresh fish filets. He also enjoyed growing and sharing tomatoes, miriltons, navel oranges and satsumas. His life was full; he was well loved and he will be missed by many.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. ANDREW THE APOSTLE CHURCH, 3101 Eton Street, New Orleans, LA 70131, on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held in Larry’s honor at 11:00 AM.

He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens, in Chalmette. In lieu of flowers, please have masses offered in Larry’s honor.
