Lee Everett Holland, 74, went to be with the Lord On January 13, 2019. Mr. Holland was born in Macon County to the late Everett and Juanita Holland on March 5, 1944. He had a long career with Duke Power, retiring as a First Class Lineman after forty one years of service.
Mr. Holland loved God and was faithful and served as a Deacon and was involved with the Royal Rangers as a leader for several years. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them. Mr. Holland also was also very community oriented.
He served as the president of the Cullasaja Club and was also voted man of the year for community development. He also was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time in the woods when possible. Lee Holland served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963to 1967.
He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC and went through extensive guerilla warfare training at Paris Island, SC. He also received training in amphibious warfare landing in Spain and Portugal. He was transferred to the Marine Corps Base in Hawaii as a part of the 3rd Battalion 4th Marines.
The whole 3rd Battalion 4th Marines were then deployed to Phu Bai, Vietnam where they made an amphibious landing. They were the first American troops to be deployed in Vietnam. He was later transferred to Danang.
He completed his deployment and was transferred back to Camp Lejeune. During his deployment he received the National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal of Service. He also received the Vietnam Service Medal Marksmanship Award, and the Marksman Award M14.
After the F.B.I. came to Western North Carolina and completed a background investigation Lee was awarded Top Secret Crypto Clearance. Mr. Holland is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty four years. In addition, he is survived by a daughter Sonya Kitchens (Mike) of Cleveland, GA; a son Danny Holland (Teresa) of Franklin; five grandchildren Melinda Wilson, Daniel Holland, Jeremiah Holland, Victoria Kitchens, and Hannah Rose Kitchens; two great grandchildren Isaac Wilson and Isabella Wilson; two sisters Sharon Holland of Franklin and Elaine Odom of Milledgeville, GA and one brother Dennis Holland of Franklin.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Davison and Faustine Holland. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 15, at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Kitchens officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Holland, Daniel Holland, Daniel Wilson, Mark Holland, Scott Odom, and Tracey Holland.
Duke Power retirees and employees will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery. Franklin VFW post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will perform Military Graveside Rites.
The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 2:00pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave. , Fl.
