Celebration of Life for Mrs. Leila Mae Walters Lester of Tampa, FL, who passed away on October 23, 2018 will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at New Hope M. B. Church, 3005 E Ellicott St, Tampa, FL with Pastor Larry J. Mouton, Jr., offici-ating. Leila Mae Walters Lester, affection-ately known as Shack to her family, was born the eleventh of twelve sib-lings to Mr. Green and Annie Ruth Witchard Walters, Sr. on March 18, 1934, in Byromsville, of Dooley County Georgia. The family eventually set-tled in Montezuma, GA, where she was educated in the public schools of Dooley County.

In the mid-1950’s she made Tampa, FL her home in the neighbor-hood of Ybor City and finally in the Tampa Heights area. She was wid-owed after suffering the loss of her husband and was the mother of six children. She worked various jobs throughout the Hillsborough County community, though her primary and most important job was being a mother to her children.

She lived inde-pendently in her home before being placed in a nursing facility. Leila Mae Walters Lester was pre-ceded in death by her parents, Green and Annie Walters, Sr.; her husband Charles Lester, Sr.; her sons, Charles Lester, Jr., Harvey Lester, Sr., and Marion Brown; Son-in-law: Min. Andrew Hill; her brothers, Anthony, Danny, Lloyd and Green Walters, Jr. of Akron, Oh; her sisters, Alvenia McKenzie of St. Petersburg, FL; Willie Maude Lester of Montezuma, GA; Willie Mae Simpson of Atlanta, GA; Bertha Lee Hamilton of Tampa, FL; Magalene Fudge of Montezuma, GA; and Minnie Lee Oglesby, formerly of Tampa FL and Akron, Oh.

; and sever-al nieces and nephews. Leila Mae Walters Lester heard her name and answered the call of her heavenly Father; she went home to rest on October 23, 2018 in Tampa, Florida. She leaves a legacy of life and a legacy of love, to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, three chil-dren: Annie Ruth Hill, Sylvester Lester, and Wayne Sedgwick Lester; Grand-children: Felicia LaShane Hill, Andre Hill, Angel Demetris Hill, Tarsheala Lester, Jeanell Goston Bagwell, Khalliah Tolbert, Harvey Lester, Jr., Debarge Lester, Arrid Green, Akbar Jackson, Keisha Charmaine Don-aldson, LaNiesha Chantrea Don-aldson, Keneisha Lester, Joshua Lester, Frances Lester, Yasmine Lester, Bella Lester, Major Lester, Shamara Cruz, Anais Cruz, Jessica Leila Lester Torres, Wendi Vitalina Lester, Wayne Esteban Lester-Gomez, and Taylor Ann Fox; Great-grandchildren: Freddie Lee Martin III, Van Eric Hymes, Jr., Meya MiShayla Hymes, Joshua Emanuel Perry, Adrian Jamir Jones, Willie Smiley, Jr., Khire Walton, Roddrick Walton, Ashley Gar-cia, Devon Goston, Jordan Lester, Anaya Jackson, Laurence Redfield, Jr., Khal’le Brown, Olaudah McCoy Jr., Kevin McCoy, O’Sareya McCoy, Emilio Green, Arrid Green II, Avonti Green, Angel Green, Ahmad Green, Zion Lester, and Christian Emmanuel Torres; Sister: Lena Walters Reddick and Sister-in-law, Gwen Walters of Akron, OH.

She will also be missed by a host of loving nephews and nieces, and many other sorrowing relatives and friends too numerous to name but who loved her just as much in Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and California, Texas, New York and Austria. The visitation will be held Friday. November 2, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Akens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Mar-tin Luther King Jr., Blvd.
