Lela Bingham was born to the union of Leroy Baker and Mary Hill on May 25, 1933 in Dumas, Arkansas. She was also educated there as an adult, she later moved from Dumas, Arkansas to East St. Louis in the 1940’s with her mother and siblings. Lela attended a variety of cosmetic art and beauty cultural colleges 1955 to 57, spending two years in Washington DC to complete her beauty operator license.

Later moved to North Carolina to attend another beauty college in 1958. Each state requires that you have a beauty operator license. Polly wasn’t done yet, she arrived in Oakland in 1965.

After a brief stay there to cultivate more style and fashion sense. Late 1966 Polly was on the move again to Seattle to attend Edison Technical School which lay the foundation to Seattle Central Community. Polly’s main objective was to obtain enough styles and techniques from different states to open her own business.

In the early 1970’s Lela A.K.A Polly arrived in Tacoma, Washington. Lela’s beauty nook was born. Owner manager operated.

After 10 years being in the business Lela moved to Seattle, Washington and opened another shop under the name Get There beauty salon. The S curl was born. Polly achieved total in 1980’s she attended Seattle Central Community College to obtain a business management degree.

On Valentines day 2019 Lela Bingham departed this earthly world to be with the Lord and Savior. She was a precious blessing to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents Lee Roy Baker and Marry Hill, as well her brothers YC and Columbus Swygeart and Arthur Marshall.

Sister Rosie Hatzinikoloao. In her passing she leaves to cherish her memory her loving son Darryl Bingham and Daughter-in-law Elizabeth Winston Bingham (Seattle, WA); Grandson Javan Cornelius (Nashville, TN); Granddaughters Sondria & Sanayi Bingham (Seattle, WA); First cousins Ocie B Anthony (Tyler, TX), Devore Dansby (Fresno, CA); and a host of nieces and nephews Restee Howell Edwardsville MO); Diana & Caleb Hudson (Seattle,WA); Dorthy & Glory White (St Louis); Michael Hawthorn (St Louis); Carolyn & Jenny Swygeart (St Louis); Velma Best (St Louis); Bryant Swygeart (St Louis); Kenya Madison Gabler (Broadview, IL) .
