Leland Carl Mitchell, age 84, of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA. Leland was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late Garfield and Maggie Lee Stinson Mitchell. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Peacetime.

He later moved to Maryland where he worked for the Montgomery County Department of Transportation. After thirty years of living in Maryland, He retired and returned home to Jewell Ridge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Mitchell, granddaughter, Tonya Mitchell, sister, Ruby Robins; and three brothers, John Mitchell, Clayton Mitchell, and James Mitchell.

He is survived by: Daughter, Linda Melton of Mount Airy, MD Sons: Troy Mitchell of Jewell Ridge, VA Marty Mitchell and wife, Melanie of Hanover, PA Sisters: Faye Brown of Frederick, MD Joanne Plaster of Newport News, VA Brothers: Leslie Mitchell of Tazewell, VA Allan Mitchell of Tazewell, VA Also surviving are eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Leland Carl Mitchell will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Bruce Mitchell officiating.

Interment will follow at the Mitchell Family Cemetery on Reynolds Ridge, near Jewell Ridge, VA. Pallbearers will be Gavin Melton, Travis Melton, Terry Mitchell, Tim Mitchell, Jr., Travis Meadows, Matthew Dye and Eric Mitchell. The Mitchell family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
