Leo’s Obituary Leo F Hopkins of Stuart Florida passed away peacefully at home on Friday March 15, 2019. Leo was preceded in death by his wife Helen (Gilroy) Hopkins who passed away November 5, 2009. He will be remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Judy Hopkins, his three granddaughters, Courtney Sanchez and Cesar Sanchez, Colleen Hopkins and Abigail Lewis and Ross Lewis and great-grandsons Geoffrey Lewis, Franklin Lewis and Mateo Sanchez.

Leo was born in Scranton, PA the first son of Francis X. and Mary (Crane) Hopkins. They had ten children, four boys and six girls. Leo loved his large extended family which included over 50 nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.

Helen’s family, also from Scranton, was equally important to Leo. There were almost as many nieces and nephews on his wife’s side of this large family. Leo was always the happiest when he could share time with his family.

Leo was a World War II veteran. He served aboard the USS Franklin CV-13 one of 24 Es class carriers used in the war. To this day it is still the most decorated ship in US Naval history.

He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945. After entering into private life Leo began a lifelong career in Sales. He began selling meat for Swift and company in Scranton.

He had a stint as a record salesman for Capital records but then returned to selling fine meats to restaurants and country clubs for the rest of his professional career. He settled his family in Syracuse, NY. He ultimately became successful enough to establish his own company, Leo F. Hopkins, Inc

He loved the lake house he owned on Otisco Lake, NY. He always wanted to live in Florida and move away from the snowy Syracuse winters. He was fortunate to retire at 58 and move to Stuart, Fl with is wife and enjoy a long retirement.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday March 19, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Forest Hills Funeral Home in Palm City, FL. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday March 20, 2019 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church 1200 SE 10th Street Stuart, Florida. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Forest Hills Funeral Home Palm City.
