Leo Thomas Whalen, 86, of Linesville passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born May 24, 1932, in Swissvale, he was the son of John and Loretta Rannigan Whalen. He married N. Lee Freeborn on October 24, 1953, in Falconer, New York.

She preceded him in death on May 24, 2010. For over 40 years, Leo worked as a truck driver and also at St. Philip Church in maintenance for 15 years. He was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Linesville and a 50 year founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6037.

He was also a member of the Pymatuning Sportsmen’s Club in Linesville. Leo enjoyed working on plumbing and loved camping on Labor Day weekend with his family. Survivors include four children, Leo P. Whalen Jr. of Ames, Iowa, Patricia Blackhurst of Linesville, Kathleen Mickle and her husband, Lawrence Jr., of Howard, Ohio, and Daniel Whalen of Linesville; four grandchildren, Kelly Proudfoot, Jamie Proudfoot, Douglas Mickle and Jessica Mickle; two great-grandchildren, Talon Proudfoot and Lilly Clickner; siblings, Mary Ellen Buckley of Curtice, Ohio, Francis (Skip) Whalen and his wife, Rose, of Grove City, Jack Whalen of Grove City, Loretta Warcholik, of Seneca, and Maureen Schmidt of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, William (Bill) Whalen. Friends and family can call on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville. Additional calling will be on Monday from 11 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville with Father David Carter as celebrant. Burial will be private in St. Philip Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 6037, P.O. Box 551, Conneaut Lake, Pa 16316 or the Tamarack Wildlife Rehab Center, 21601 Stull Road, Saegertown, Pa 16433.
