Obituary for Leon Edward Smock Leon Edward Smock, 77, of Eatontown, passed away on Friday September 28, 2018 at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Menlo Park, NJ from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Leon was born in Neptune, NJ to the late Leon B. Smock Jr. and Jean Smock of Eatontown. He was a graduate of Long Branch High School and Monmouth University.

After college, he served as an aviator for the US Navy during the Vietnam War where he flew numerous C-130 aircraft missions and received many air medals and awards for meritorious service. After his Navy career, he returned to the US and was employed as a commercial airline pilot. He captained flights to many destinations around the world.

His final airline role was as a 747 captain for Federal Express. When he wasn’t flying, Leon was engaged in a number of real estate and other business ventures in the Monmouth County area. Leon is survived by his two brothers; Thomas of Eatontown and Jeffrey of Pocono Lake, PA, his sister Susan of Somerville.

He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Services for Leon will be private, he will be interred at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, PO Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 33131 would be appreciated.
