Leon’s Obituary Funeral services for Leon L. Koehn will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. Burial will follow at Cedar Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Leon L. Koehn was born August 9, 1953 to Leonard Harley and Joy Belle (Penner) Koehn in Fairview, Oklahoma and passed away December 23, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.

Growing up in rural Major County, Leon attended Ringwood schools and graduated with the Ringwood Class of 1971. He went to Autry Vo-Tech and got his degree in Diesel Mechanics. Leon enlisted with the National Guard following high school where he spent six years from 1972-1978 when he was honorably discharged.

Leon met Sherry Rich at the Rancho and they were soon inseparable. They married on September 28, 1974. To this marriage were added two wonderful sons, Ryan in December of 1976 and Eric in June of 1980.

Leon worked for Keith Wanzer at WB Johnston Grain Co. and was a jack of all trades in the business. He did just about every job there was from grinding feed, to suppling a spray rig with fertilizer. For several years Leon managed the elevator in Longdale during harvest.

Leon was a valued employee. He was certified to grade grain for Johnston’s. It has been said that Leon was their most faithful employee.

He knew most all of the farmers in the area and therefore could send out rig drivers to the correct fields. He loved working and showed up to work even after he was diagnosed with Carcinoid Cancer in November of 2007. Thanks to his manager, Brian LaHaan, Leon continued to work until 2012 when he had to go on dialysis and was forced into retirement.

It was a difficult time for Leon, dealing with his illness and loss of his job. He enjoyed spending time at the family operated fruit stand visiting with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed Hit and Miss Engines and Tractor shows.

He collected antique chainsaws and lawnmowers. Cutting firewood and looking through antique stores were just a couple of his hobbies. But probably his greatest joy was his grandkids.

Leon had difficulty showing his love through the years with his own sons but after his illness he changed. Family became much more important to him. With the addition of Eli, Noah and Nathaniel, his little buddy, he had something to live for.

Leon loved his family very much and will be missed by all his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his grandparents and his father, Leonard Koehn. Left to cherish his memory are: his wife Sherry, sons; Ryan Koehn, Eric and wife Denae’ Koehn, mother, Joy Belle Koehn all of Ringwood, OK, one sister Kara and husband Dennis Harrell of Tulsa, OK and three grandsons, twins Eli, Noah and Nathaniel Koehn and friends.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the March of Dimes with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
