Lila Mae Groeneveld December 21, 1929 – December 21, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Lila Mae Groeneveld, age 89, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Ben and Dorthea (Harms) Buseman on December 21, 1929, in rural Aplington. Lila graduated from Aplington High School in 1948. She then attended Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and earned her Teaching Credentials.

After her schooling, Lila taught country school near Kesley. On June 14, 1950, Lila was united in marriage with Henry John Groeneveld at the Washington Reformed Church in rural Ackley. After their marriage, they lived in Aplington where they resided their entire married life, raising their three children.

Lila worked outside the home in several businesses throughout the community, the most recent being at the Aplington schools. Whatever she was doing, Lila was great at establishing relationships with people throughout her life. She was known for her excellent hostess qualities.

Lila was a faith filled member of the Aplington Baptist church. She was active in church organizations and the Christian Women’s Club. Lila loved shopping and visiting.

Her greatest pleasures came when spending time with her family and friends. Lila died suddenly on her 89th birthday, Friday, December 21, 2018, at Unity Point Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Lila is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry on August 20, 2010; her parents; one brother, Norman Buseman, two sisters-in-law, Louise Buseman and Verna Best; and two brothers-in-law, Mervin and Howard Best.

Lila is survived by three children, Brenda (Greg) Shine of Conrad, Iowa, Rhonda (Randy) Achenbach of Marion, Iowa and Ivan (Veronica) Groeneveld of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Dan, Rochelle, Reed, Jillian, Colin, John and Sheena; 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Ruth) Buseman of Aplington and Alvin (Peg) Buseman of Dumont, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, June Best of Aplington. Private Family Services will be the Aplington Baptist Church, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, both in Aplington. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the Aplington Baptist Church in Aplington.
