Obituary for Lila Medora Hooker Lila Medora Hooker, age 97, of Rensselaer, IN passed away June 13, 2018 at Parkview Haven Retirement Home, in Francesville, IN. Lila was born in rural Barkley Township, Jasper County, Indiana on January 16, 1921 to the late Winfred and Bessie (Baughman) Pullin. She was raised in Barkley Township where she attended the Barkley Township school.
She graduated from Rensselaer High School with the Class of 1938 and went on to attend Central Normal School in Danville, Indiana. Lila met Charles Hooker at a Rural Youth meeting which was a group established for farm boys and girls during the war. They were married on the 40th wedding anniversary of their grandparents, February 23, 1946, in Rensselaer, IN.
They became the parents of two children, Jo Ann (husband Dick) Reese of Blanchester, Ohio and Lewis (wife Sue) Hooker of Rensselaer. Lila was a member of the First Christian Church in Rensselaer. She enjoyed participating in activities of the church and continued her religious practices after being unable to continue to attend.
Lila had worked as a secretary for an attorney, a bookkeeper for an auto parts store and a seamstress for a decorating company where she made draperies. Lila was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed re-making clothes she purchased. She and her husband enjoyed travel and made trips to Florida, Texas and Canada.
She also enjoyed doing jig-saw puzzles, watching John Wayne movies and comedies. She was most proud of her children and enjoyed doing things with her family. Including her children Jo Ann and Lewis she is survived by 3 grandchildren, Mandy (husband Mike) Stobel, Devin Hooker and Casey Hooker, and two great grandchildren, Jacob and Lila Paige.
Along with her parents and her husband, Lila was preceded in death by two brothers, Rabin and Charles Pullin. Friends will be received at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Monday, June 18, 2018, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:00 pm at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer.
