Linda Ann Koonce September 17, 1947 – March 02, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Linda Ann Koonce, 71, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, March 2, 2019 at KU Medical Center. Born September 17, 1947 in Carthage, New York, she was the daughter of Stanley and Doris (McCulloch) Langdon. She was raised by Roy Thompson and her mother, and received her education in Wichita, Kansas.

She married Jimmy Brock on March 4, 1967. The couple raised their four children in Winfield, and Linda worked as a meat wrapper at Boogarts. The couple later divorced.

She was united in marriage to Fred L. Koonce on August 3, 1982 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in Winfield where Linda worked at William Newton Hospital. She later attended Cowley County Community College graduating with an Associates Degree in 1991.

She then attended classes in Wichita and became a Certified Dietary Manager. She began her career at the Kansas Veterans Home. She then became a caregiver, in her home, for disabled individuals and later for her husband Fred.

Mr. Koonce preceded her in death on January 6, 2014. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Winfield where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was currently attending Rev City Church in Lawrence.

She enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, sewing, cleaning and organizing, dancing, praising God, and going to the casino. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending family gatherings. Linda would tell you, her greatest accomplishment was her four children.

Her family includes her sons, Tracy Freeman of Topeka; David Freeman and wife, Kathleen of Lawrence; Richard Brock and wife, Cheryl of Winfield; her daughter Angela Lolar and husband, Howard of Lawrence; her bonus sons, Melvin Koonce and wife, Christin of Sarpsborg, Norway; Chris Koonce and wife, Cathy of Fort Worth, TX; her bonus daughter Tresa Johnson and husband, Brett of New Braunfels, Texas; her sisters, Kay Bond and Jackie Arndt of Winfield; her brother Donnie Langdon and wife, Claudia of Peach Tree City, GA; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tessa, Tracy Don, Sarah Ann, David, LaTisha Ann, Michael, Tristin, Carly, Tanner, Daltin, Thomas, Ryan, Christopher, Corey, Britney, Tiffany, Allen, Michael; her great grandchildren, Calista Ann, Bruce Archer, Wallace Aleck, Quinton, KJ, Isabella, Annariah, Mateo, Jakob, Izik; her best friend Rita May Marler of Rogers, AR; her dogs, Chloe and Molly; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Linda was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Jake Bond and Carl Arndt and her friend Alma May Everett. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Central Baptist Church.

Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Following graveside services, a celebration of her life will be held at Chestnut Avenue Venue, at 3120 E. Chestnut Ave, Arkansas City. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Linda’s name for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
