Linwood ‘Cody” Joseph Cole, loving son of Linwood M. Cole and Mary Emma Riley, was born on April 7, 1942. He departed this life on April 30, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Linwood received his formal education from the Baltimore City Public School System and acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Morgan State University.

Linwood taught math and science in the Baltimore City Public Schools before taking a job with the Department of Defense (DOD) for many years where he worked on consulting companies with weapon designs for the United States Navy ad traveling around the globe consulting foreign countries with weapon operations and maintenance. Upon retirement with the DOD, Linwood developed an interest in helping underprivileged children and obtained employment with the Department of Social Services (Baltimore City) under the Kinship Care Division. Linwood remained with the Department of Social Services for over 12 years.

Affectionally known as “Cody”, he acknowledged his relationship with Jesus Christ and attended St. Johns Lutheran Church until his health began to fail. Cody enjoyed traveling, watching and listening the news (especially politics), was a frequent caller of talk radio voicing his opinion on matters of interest/current events. Cody was very knowledgeable of many subjects and the family gave him the moniker of “Mr. Know It All”.

Cody was also an avid reader and stressed the importance of acquiring an education or a skill to “position yourself” for success. Cody would also participate in many political campaigns and would be on the winning campaign of the candidate he would support most of the time. Cody was family orientated and shared an unbreakable bond with his mother, Mary.

It was a joy to see them both together! Cody also shared this affinity with his granddaughters, Keyasha and Jewel. Cody leaves to cherish his loving memory, Julian (son), sisters, Sonja and Darlene, brother-in-law, Vernon, granddaughters, Keyasha and Jewel, best friend and former wife, Shirlean, niece Demetria Pennington and nephew Ricky Williams (preceding him in death) and a host of living relatives and friends.
