Linwood Theodore Wells, Jr. August 03, 1937 – March 05, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card WELLS, Linwood Theodore Jr., 81, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019. He was born on August 3, 1937, the son of Virginia Bundy, from Lebanon, Va. and Linwood T. Wells, whom he regarded as his ‘hero’, from Brown’s Cove, Va.
He was reared in Charleston, West Virginia, where he graduated from Charleston High School in 1956. During high school, he met the love of his life, Sally Diane Wilcox. The couple would travel from Charleston to Charlottesville, where she attended nursing school and he, college.
He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1960, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science with Honors and lived on the lawn. In 1963, he graduated from The University of Virginia School of Law. He became an associate with Blanton, Lumpkin and Shaia from 1963 until 1971.
In 1971, he joined the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia where he served primarily in the Criminal Division handling cases including Capital cases until he retired in 2003. He argued cases at all levels, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He lived his faith teaching Sunday school at Reveille United Methodist Church, serving on the Vestry at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, and singing in the choir at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, where he was a member from 1982 until the present.
He is survived by his son, Linwood T. Wells III; his daughter, Linette Joy Wells; his two grandchildren, John Alexander Wells and Elyse Yuleimy Wells; his brother, Daniel Bundy Wells; his nephew, Shannon; and his niece, Shea. Additionally, he has extended family and friends in Charlottesville, Charleston, W.Va. and in Southwest Va.
He had many passions, including model trains, trips to England and Williamsburg and he enjoyed spending time with his beloved dogs. He is fondly remembered for working in his yard by the members of the Southampton Recreation Association. He was a passionate believer in the law, training many interns and teaching them not only zeal for their profession but above all, ‘integrity.
’ “Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal” -Thomas Moore. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Services will be held 12 noon Monday, March 11, 2019, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Monticello Memory Gardens, Charlottesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Ct. , Glen Allen, VA 23060 or the SPCA, 2519 Hermitage Rd.
