Lionel “Lew” Walder October 03, 1932 – December 18, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Lionel Edwin Walder, “Lew” (86yrs) passed on December 18, 2018. He was born in Evanston, IL on Oct. 3, 1932.

He attended Lincolnwood Elementary, Haven Middle School, Evanston Township High School and briefly studied German at Eastern Illinois University. He was preceded by his loving wife Sandra “Sandy” (Perry), brother Robert “Bob” (Lee) Walder, and his parents Alvina “Honey” (Dombrow) and Lionel S. Walder. Lionel is survived by his three children: Margaret (Craig) Knepp, Elyse (Kevin Sato) Louie, Loyd (Claudia) Walder.

He is also survived by brother Donald “Don” Walder and seven grandchildren: Jay Louie, Christopher Louie, Alexander Louie, Stacey Knepp, Amanda Knepp, Kaylee Walder, & Dillon Walder; and great granddaughter: Morgan Rieger. Lionel was a postman on route 68 in Evanston for 28 years with the Evanston Post Office. He also served in the army and was stationed in Germany post WWII, with special training in the 10th infantry division, mechanics and armory.

Lionel retired at age 55. He enjoyed story telling & a good joke, investing in the stock market, dancing, singing, good beer, and good food. He liked spending time with his grandchildren, people-watching, and betting on the horses at the Arlington track.

He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and of the Schwaben Verein. Memorial services will be held on Sunday Jan. 6th, 2019 at the Schwaben Verein, 301 Weiland Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am -12:00 pm and a celebration of life service will be held immediately thereafter at noon.
