Lkhagvajav Dampil, was born in Bayangol Sum, Ovorkhangai Aimag, Mongolia on November 1st, 1951 to Dolgor and Tsegmid, both from Mongolia. Her uncle, Dampil, adopted her when she was 9 years old. As the oldest of 10 children, she was known as the “Tom Egch” which means “The Big Sister” to her relatives as well as the people in her hometown.
She grew up in Mongolia and attended elementary school in her hometown, and graduated from High school in the class of 1965 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. After graduation, she attended “The Institute of Food Processing Technology” and graduated with an Associate degree in 1967. She worked as a Dairy Technician for “Suu” dairy company starting in 1967.
While working there she received an Accounting Degree from “The Institute of Economics and Finance” in 1976 and graduated from “The National University of Mongolia” with a Bachelor of Science as an Economist/Accountant in 1982. She then started working as an accountant for “Suu” dairy company starting 1974. She received a medal of motherhood (5) children, a medal commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the People’s Republic in 1991, the 80th Anniversary medal of the People’s Republic in 2001, and a gold medal for employee of the year in 2013.
Lkhagvajav married her husband, Chuluunjav Palam in 1969. They would be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on April 1st, 2019. Together they raised a family of 5 children: Sumiya, Undrakh (Uka), Udval (Val), Burmaa (Emma), and Namdag (Nick).
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a wonderful friend. With a heart as big as the ocean, she helped her children to raise her grandchildren. She was very proud of her children and loved being “Emee” to her grandchildren.
“Emee” means “grandmother” in Mongolian. She enjoyed gardening, hiking, traveling, sewing, and spending time with her family and friends. Being outside in the fresh air energized her and helped her keep her youthful energy.
She enjoyed cooking healthy food for her family and was always eager to learn new things. She was a very supportive, thoughtful, and caring person. This overflowing amount of love and joy she had for her family, siblings, friends, and life, could be felt across the world.
Her unconditional love, understanding and selflessness taught all those around her what the true meaning of “Eej” was, which means “mother” in Mongolian. At the age of 66, Lkhagvajav passed away on Saturday, October 27th, 2018 in Sacramento, surrounded by her loving family. She was just 5 days away from her 67th birthday.
She is survived by her husband, five children, three brothers, six sisters, ten grandchildren (three girls and seven boys), one great granddaughter, as well as many other loving relatives and friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness and warm smile will always be in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 9:30AM on November 2nd, 2018, at the Sierra View Funeral Chapel, 6201 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael, California 95608. She will be buried in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
