Obituary for Lois Marjorie Siebe LOIS M. SIEBE (COOPER) Lois Siebe passed from this life into heaven in the presence of her family on October 21, 2018 at 93 years of age. She was born in Pocatello, Idaho to Kathleen (Peterson) and Earl Cooper on August 19, 1925. Her first job was working in her grandparent’s general store in Rockland, Idaho.
After attending primary school in Pocatello, her family moved, and she graduated from Challis High School as valedictorian. At age 16, she enrolled at the University of Idaho, Southern Branch. During college breaks, she worked for the Forest Service in Challis.
When Kenneth Siebe, the actual boy-next-door, returned from Europe at the end of WWII, they married and enrolled at University of Idaho, Moscow. Graduating with BA’s in Art for Lois and Business Administration for Ken, they settled in Pasco in 1950. Motherhood was her first priority, which she accomplished with the arrival of Scott, Meredith, Dorothy and Carolyn.
Her considerable creative energies, intelligence and love were channeled into bringing up the children. Reading, story-telling, picnics, art lessons, costume sewing, endless adventures, and sleeping out under the stars enriched our days. She attended countless school events, PTA meetings, and performances.
Her near photographic memory held volumes of poetry and obscure song lyrics from the early part of the last century. This was a lifelong of amusement and wonder to her family as she would rattle them off whenever the mood struck her. Lois returned to the workforce in 1968, taking her professional secretarial and administrative skills to the CAC and its nascent Head Start Program.
Later she was recruited to the Franklin County Courthouse to re-establish and work in the Planning Office. She took dictation in shorthand. Her error-free typing speed reached 105 wpm, so fast, the IBM Selectric Ball had to keep typing when she was done to catch up!
She set up and ran the printshop in a small office in the Courthouse, assembling the mammoth printing press from boxes of components she ordered. Her career culminated as the clerk of three County Boards. An artist by inclination and training, the sight of her in her painting hat with canvas and brushes, was a familiar one.
The house she designed and built with Ken was a gallery for her craft. Her lifelong love of reading and the beauty of language instilled impressive vocabularies in all her children. She wrote essays, short stories, plays, memoirs, family history and letters by the score, full of her humor and trademark wit.
She instructed by example, displaying the merits and necessity of hard work, loyalty and duty. Her authenticity and lack of self-consciousness made her a trusted friend and confidant to people of every generation. A lifelong church-goer, nevertheless at 45 she experienced a conversion into a profound knowledge of and faith in Jesus Christ.
Her life was changed in an instant and forever. Her love and devotion to the Lord made her a willing vessel and conduit for His truth, generosity and hospitality. Her well-worn Bible testifies to her decades of study and delight in the Scriptures.
To the end, she prayed with power, humility and conviction. Her wisdom and guidance were sought by so many and will be deeply missed. She leaves behind the love of her husband of 71 years, Ken, her four children, Scott (Kathy), Meredith (Brian), Dorothy (Bob) and Carolyn (Tom), 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
