Obituary of Lonnie Schultz Schultz, Lonnie G. Lonnie G. Schultz, age 61 of Menno, SD passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center in Menno. Lonnie G. Schultz was born on April 14, 1956, in Freeman, SD to Gust and Eleanora (Oswald) Schultz. He grew up on a farm north of Menno till 1961.

The family then moved to Lesterville, SD. His dad owned and operated a bar until 1963. At this time his family moved back to Menno, where Lonnie went to grade school and high school.

He played football and basketball in the 70’s. He graduated from Menno High School in 1974. Lonnie joined the U.S. Navy on November 17, 1974.

He bought his first car, a 1957, Chevy the day before he left for boot camp in San Diego, CA. He was later stationed at Meridian, Mississippi until 1976. In 1976 through 1977, he went to Vo-Tech school in Sioux Falls, SD, for auto mechanics.

He worked for John Morrell in Sioux Falls from 1977-1993. During this time, he met and married Marla and they later divorced. In 1994, he moved back to Menno.

He started his own business, the Menno Garbage Service, running it until 2000. Now it was time to start something new; he worked with Mclaughin and Schultz Construction from 2000 until his death. They were bought out by Duininck Construction in 2015.

Lonnie enjoyed his many jobs throughout his lifetime, meeting and working with good people. They made the work fun. In 2015, Lonnie was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Early in the morning, he would have his cancer treatment, then go back to work, working many a twelve-hour day or more. He was in remission until 2017. His cancer returned and this time in his lungs.

Lonnie is survived by his sister, Sandy Weber of Menno, SD; brother, Bruce of Denver, CO; niece, Nikkimarie, {Derrick) of Mitchell, DS and son, Jayce of Mitchell, SD. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Bernie. All in all, my life has brought me much joy.
