Loretta A. (Waldien) Smith April 24, 1938 – December 15, 2018 Brookings resident Loretta A. Smith passed away on December 15, 2018 at a local care facility, aged 80 years. She was born at Crescent City, California on April 24, 1938 to Frank A. and Esther A. (Henderson) Waldien. Loretta grew up on the Chetco river and worked on the family ranch.

After High School, she attended Oregon Tech. Later she went to work with a carnival where she met and married her husband, William E. Smith. … Read More » In the mid 1970’s, they left the carnival and went to work as watchmen for her brother at L. A. Logging.

She was a good cook and worked at local restaurants. Loretta is survived by her son, William A. Smith of Portland and brother Blaine K. Waldien of Coquille. A Celebration of her life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, January 26, 2018 at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield Street in Brookings.
