Betts “Papa Louie”, 66 years old, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant.

Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date in Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, Missouri. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, one hour preceding the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Croix Hospice and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom final care has been entrusted.

Louis was born on February 8, 1953, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of G. Harold Betts and Mary Ann Davenport. He attended public grade schools and graduated from Atchison High School in 1971. He was employed with Rockwell International as a Maintenance Supervisor for many years until his retirement.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking but especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. Louis was a member of St. Benedict Parish, participating at St. Joseph’s Church and was a member of the Sacred Heart Council #723 of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his children, Mike Moriaty, Platte City, MO; Ashley Hobbs, Atchison, KS; sisters, Mary Johanna (Dennis) Thummel, Cameron, MO; Regina Hund, Atchison, KS; brothers, George (Karen) Betts, St. Joseph, MO; Paul (Angela) Betts, Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Mia and Macy Moriaty, Eme and Ethan Eckert, Kurt Peden; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
