OBITUARY Louis “Lou” Whitten Mixon Jr. January 29, 1935 – November 7, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Louis Whitten Mixon, Jr., a/k/a Lou, flew on the wings of Eagles to his Heavenly Home, on November 8, 2018. Lou is survived by his wife of 62 years Mifi Mixon, his son Trey Mixon, his daughter-in-law Maile Mixon, his wonderful twin grandchildren, Mackenzie and Marshall of Plano, Tx. Lou was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Jean Mixon, a/k/a Barb by her friends and family.

Lou served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1958. After getting out of the service, he went to college on the GI Bill. Lou retired from Bell South in 1994 and then went to work for Lucent and AT&T for five years.

At this time, he did all his work for them from home. When Lou and his family moved to Lawrenceville in 1978, he became involved with the Boy Scouts of the Northeast Georgia Council, Alcovy District. He loved teaching the young Scouts how to tie knots.

He was awarded the prestigious honor of receiving the Silver Beaver Award, one of Scouting’s highest honors. He worked with the Scouts about 20 years. After retiring from doing Scout work, Lou became a volunteer with the senior group at Eastside Medical Center where he did computer work for the membership, as well as the H2U (Health 2 You) Choral group.

He just received the award for the Volunteer of the year for 2018. He and Mifi were members of the Choral group who performed programs for senior groups at different locations. He did most of the computer work that was needed from home.

He had just retired from his volunteer work. Lou always had a smile for everyone and if anyone ever needed any help, he was always there to help out. He always tried to be a friend to anyone he met.

He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. Lou’s funeral will be held at Snellville United Methodist Church on November 13, 2018. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and the service will be at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial be submitted to either the Snellville United Methodist Church, American Heart Society or charity of your choice.
