Obituary of Louise MacLean October 5, 1931 – November 5, 2018 Louise MacLean. Age 87 of Brownstown. Beloved wife of the late Leslie Carlin.

Dear sister of Catherine Beaudry and the late Donald MacLean. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Charles and Lucian MacLean.

Louise was a proud veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. FAMILY TRIBUTE Doris “Louise” MacLean was born in Detroit on October 5th, 1931 to Charles and Lucian MacLean. Louise attended Western High School and graduated in 1949.

Louise loved sports! ! When she was a teenager, she would take the Fort Street bus in Southwest Detroit down to Tiger Stadium to watch the Tigers play.

Sports was an interest that stayed with her for life. Louise volunteered and served three years active duty in the Army and later served in the Naval Reserves in the Intelligence Unit. While stationed in Italy, Corporal MacLean was assigned to the supply section as clerk typist.

She formerly served as Secretary to the Catholic Chaplin at Camp Kilmer, N.J. Louise was employed by the General Motors Corporation in Detroit before entering the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in 1951. In addition to being stationed in Italy, Louise was stationed in Morocco, Korea and Japan. In addition to working at Selfridge Airbase as Base Librarian Administrator, Louise worked as a school librarian, a law librarian, and a social worker.

Louise attended Wayne State University acquiring a Master’s degree in Library Science, Social Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science Education. While attending Central Michigan University (CMU), Louise won an Education Scholarship in 1950 and Honor’s Convocation (English writing award) in 1955. She was also a former student of Central Michigan Teachers College.

Louise had a second home in Florida where she loved to travel and spend the winters. She later married Leslie Carlin, who had been her counselor at Central Michigan University (CMU) before she went into the service. She and Leslie enjoyed traveling and took some time to enjoy the Far East and Asia.

When Louise was younger, her hobbies and interests included photography, writing, traveling, trying different types of self-employment, keeping in touch with friends, spectator sports – especially baseball and football. She also loved animals, especially cats and dogs. Louise had a good sense of humor, could be fun, witty and was a strong willed person.

She will be missed.
