Obituary Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother & friend, Lovina Eleanor Hansen Shepherd better known as “Elle” passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019. Elle was born in Fountain Green, Utah on January 15, 1930 to James Hansen and Lovina Mae Guymon and loved growing up on their family farm with her parents and her brother, Venice, & her sister, Loraine. “Elle” graduated from Granite High School in SLC & shortly after married her husband, Melvyn Grant Shepherd, who served in the military for 22 years.
She loved military life and being a USMC wife. She loved the travel, friendships, honor and adventures it offered to her in many different places. Their first born, Mel, was born in Utah.
They were transferred to California, where Karon & Craig, we’re born; Texas, where Jan was born, Nebraska, where Scott was born, Virginia (they missed that one? ! ), & Oregon, where Corinne was born.
Eugene, Oregon was one of her favorite places and she always said how beautiful it was. She was a very beautiful, kind, & loving mother to her six children. She was an excellent cook & baker, and truly loved her desserts while at Carrington Court, with chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin pie, & chocolate shakes being her favorites.
She loved her children, grandchildren, tending to her flower garden, Bingo, Karon’s maltese, Sophie, who she proudly referred to as her Maltese, the Carrington Court Ward & relief society, shopping, buying new clothes, angels and butterflies, but most of all she loved “people”, and was dearly adored by all for her sweet, kind, and loving nature. She was blessed & very grateful for all of the aides, especially Vickie, who was her aide for almost 10 years, & friends with all of the residents at Carrington Court. She loved her lunch buddies, Susan, Lisa, & Vickie, and was thankful for the dedicated hospice nurses, Joni & Emily, social worker, Theresa & Chaplain, Carrie & all of the other wonderful caregivers at Signature Hospice who provided such excellent care and so much love.
She is survived by her children; Mel, Karon(Steve) Jensen, Jan(Jim) Ward, Craig(Michelle), Scott, Corinne(Kelly) Oveson, 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah.
