Obituary for M. Lucille Kinlein Born December 17. 1921, departed this earth in peace on November 12, 2018. Daughter of Julius and Theresa Kinlein, she spent her childhood at her home known as Maple Cliffe in Ellicott City, Maryland.
She is predeceased by four sisters and three brothers: Alberta Hogg, Doris McGloin, Alma McCormack, Marion Kinlein, Julius Kinlein, Donald Kinlein, and infant Richard Kinlein. In 1939, she graduated as valedictorian from Mount De Sales Academy, Catonsville, Maryland. With a BA degree in languages, she graduated from College of Notre Dame of Maryland in 1943.
In 1947, she received a BS in Nursing Education from Catholic University of America (Washington D.C.), and M.S.N.E. in 1953. As Assistant Professor of nursing at Catholic University, she eventually became Director of the Master’s program in cardiovascular disease nursing in 1962.
She was the first cardiovascular nursing specialist and had the first independent nurse practice in 1971. A wonderfully outgoing, generous person, she loved her numerous nieces and nephews, spending time with them as they grew up. Survived by three generations of nieces, nephews, and their families, she is greatly mourned.
Viewings will be held at Slack Funeral Home, P.A., in Ellicott City, November 28, from 2-4, and 6-8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Ellicott City, November 29, at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Missionaries of Charity, 818 North Collington Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21205.
