Lucy’s Obituary “There is a time and a season for every matter under Heaven, a time to be born and a time to die”. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 Well, my new home is finished and it’s a beautiful sight to behold. There is peace, joy, and happiness here, with no more pain to fear and no strife or discontent.

On Friday, February 8, 2019, at 3:00am while in the comfort of her home, Lucy St. Mary, one week shy of her 104th birthday, earned her Heavenly wings. She was born on February 15, 1915 in Elton, LA to Martel and Alberta (Victorian) Cezar. She was raised in Soileau, LA and later moved to Lake Charles in 1935 where she worked and retired from Calcasieu Frozen Food after more than 30 years.

Following her retirement, she began volunteering through the Foster Grandparent Program at nursing homes and Wonderland of Play Head Start Center until the age of 93. She enjoyed volunteering and took it on as a regular job. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church until her health deteriorated, and was a member of the Christian Mothers and Holy Name Society.

She devoutly recited the rosary daily. She enjoyed the Mardi Gras season and was on court for the Senior Volunteers of Lake Charles. She was recognized by the Today Show on her 103rd birthday as a Smucker’s girl.

She stayed active all of her life and could still Waltz with her son on her 100th, 101st, 102nd and 103rd birthdays. She was the proud matriarch of her family. Mrs. St. Mary lost both of her sisters at early ages and she always felt it was her personal responsibility to represent them at every family gathering, which she did with pride.

The legacy we have from her is that she taught us love and how to fight, she gave us strength, she gave us might. A stronger person would be hard to find. Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Beverly St. Mary of Iowa; eight beloved grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph St. Mary; grandson, Jermaine Joseph St. Mary; two sisters, Lydia Caesar and Elizabeth Goodly; a brother, Lucius Cezar and their spouses. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev.

Timothy Goodly will officiate. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM until the rosary is recited at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Cezar Cemetery in Durald, LA.
