OBITUARY Lucy Kate Stevens March 20, 1931 – September 16, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Lucy Kate Stevens age 87 of Mechanisburg, PA, passed away Sept. 16, 2018 near her home town of Pell City, AL. Kate was born to the late Lucy Drummonds and Sam Williams on March 20, 1931 in Cropwell, AL.

She was a graduate of Vincent High School in Vincent, AL. Following her graduation from school, Ms. Stevens began her professional career as a civilian employee at the Anniston Army Depot, Anniston, AL. Along with her career at the depot, Kate and Faye Nell Kendrick started the first Merle Norman studio in Pell City, AL.

In 1975, Ms. Stevens transferred to New Cumberland Army Depot (NCAD), New Cumberland, PA, where she became head of the Transportation Division. In 1983, Ms. Stevens was selected to be the Director of the Eastern Distribution Center project at NCAD, successfully completing the construction of a major distribution center to support our armed forces in the United States and Europe. Ms. Stevens completed her distinguished career as the Civilian Executive Assistant to the Depot Commander, the highest civilian position at NCAD.

Kate was the first woman to hold this position. Her dedication to duty was an inspiration to all who worked with and for her. She retired from Federal Civilian Service in 1991.

Kate was a member and past president of the New Cumberland Army Depot Women’s Club, she was also the first female member of the West Shore Elks Lodge #2257, Mechanicsburg, PA. Ms. Stevens is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years Wilfred Eugene (Gene) Schweitzer, her sister Josephine Howell, and 4 brothers Charles, Fall, Joddie, and Sam Williams, Jr She is survived by her niece Jeanette W. Smith (the late Jim Smith) and nephew Terry L. Wilson (Sonya), 2 children, Lyle Schweitzer (Jane), a daughter Joleen Schweitzer (Jim Derham) six grandchildren, Michael Derham, Jared Schweitzer (Carrie), Christopher Derham, Mark Schweitzer ( Kristin), Kathy Derham, and Rebecca Knoster (Jason), seven great grandchildren, Jonathan Schweitzer, Luke Schweitzer, Malachi Schweitzer, Liam McCaffrey, Matthias Schweitzer, Thad Schweitzer, and Isaac Schweitzer.

Two faithful friends and long time caregivers Danni Rorapaugh and Teresa Reinhardt Yost and a host of friends. A funeral service for Ms. Stevens will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA, Rev. Mark Schweitzer officiating.

Burial will follow at Rolling Green Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Neill Funeral Home.
