LulaBelle Horter, age 81, of Shelby, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018. She was born April 21, 1937 in Newfield Township to Jacob and Myrtle (Beardsley) Achterhoff. LulaBelle was raised near New Era.

She married Frank Horter on February 11, 1956. They lived in Benona Township before moving to Kent City for three years and California for a year before returning to this area to live in Benona for many years. Lula enjoyed being a 4H sewing leader.

She belonged to several quilting guilds. She also enjoyed canning. She is survived by her husband, Frank; her children, Christian (Clarence) Chase, Irene (Stephen) Rayment, Frank Horter, Jr., Peter Horter and LeRoy Horter; her grandchildren, Roy Chase, Jacob Chase, Angelia Rayment, Timothy (Jill) Rayment, Samantha (Charles) Curry, Melissa Horter, Sara Wyatt and Cindy Shnook; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Taylor and Pat Frase; and her brother, Edward (Rose) Achterhoff.

LulaBelle was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Dolores Walker and Betty Best and her brother, Don Achterhoff. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 11th from 6-8 pm at Harris Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Friday, October 12th, 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with a luncheon to follow.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Stony Lake after the luncheon.
