Chavez, 97 of Santa Rosa, NM passed away peacefully at Vecinos Sanos on Saturday, December 22, 2018 with her family at her bedside. She was born December 15, 1922 in San Ignacio, NM to the home of Cristino and Sarita (Apodaca) Romero.

She grew up and attended school in San Ignacio. Luz married Manuel Chavez Jr., in San Ignacio, NM in 1950. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa.

Luz enjoyed quilting and visiting with her friends at Campos Senior Citizens Center. She is preceded in death by her father Cristino Romero, her mother and step-father Sarita and Margarito Madrid, her husband Manuel Chavez Jr., a son Ramon Chavez, and a brother Pete Romero. Luz is survived by a son Ernest Chavez and his wife Grace of Santa Rosa, three grandsons Dominic (Carla) Chavez, Gilbert (Miranda) Chavez of Fort Sumner, NM and Glen (Adriana) Chavez of Albuquerque, and a step brother Eli Madrid.

Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services and burial will be held in Santa Rosa, NM. Time and date are pending.

Pallbearers will include Dominic Chavez, Gilbert Chavez, Glen Chavez, Ernie Chavez, Pat Velasquez, Robert Chavez, Michael Romero, and Bill Johnson. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S. Third Street, Santa Rosa, New Mexico. (575) 472-3369.
