Lydia’s Obituary Mrs. Lydia Jean Szabo Peterson, age 81, wife of Victor “Vic” Peterson, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Friday morning, March 22, 2019 at Williamson Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 11AM at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Columbia with Pastor Chuck Westra officiating. Entombment will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 4-7PM at Heritage Funeral Home and again on Thursday from 10-11AM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on September 23, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio, Lydia was the daughter of the late Charles Szabo and the late Mildred Brandies Szabo.

She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio. Better known as “Grandma” by many students, Lydia worked numerous years in the cafeteria at Columbia Central High School before retiring. She was a devoted member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church where she and her husband, Vic, were a couple of the original members.

The “Trio,” consisting of Lydia, Laverne, and Marge, ran the day care and assisted with Vacation Bible School in the church for several years. Those who met Lydia described her as being a feisty lady. She often enjoyed making flower arrangements for family members.

She was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and will be laid to rest with her favorite Buckeyes blanket draped over her. In addition to her husband, Vic, of 62 years, she is survived by her sons: Bruce Peterson of Columbia, TN, Donald Peterson of Tipp City, OH; daughter: Debbie Clark of Columbia, TN; sisters: Charlene Elam of Columbia, TN, Rosanne Lawrence of Houston, TX; and grandchildren: Zachry (Brandi) Clark of Spring Hill, TN, Brent Clark of Murfreesboro, TN, Nicholas Clark of Murfreesboro, TN and Several nieces and nephews also survived. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: Edward Szabo; and sister: Dyanne Haake.

Pallbearers will be: Zachry Clark, Nicholas Clark, Brent Clark, Bruce Peterson, and Donald Peterson. The members of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
