Obituary of Lydia Blanchard On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, local artist, Lydia Olvera Blanchard, a loving wife, mother, and daughter, passed away at the age of 55. Lydia was born on October 27, 1963 in Brownsville, Texas to Francisco and Lydia Olvera. She received her bachelor’s degree in the area of Art from the University of Texas at Brownsville.

Lydia’s artwork was extraordinary and has been featured on the UT Brownsville Regional History Series Volume Thirteen, plus numerous other accomplishments. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 33 years, Benny “Ben” Blanchard; two sons, Benny Frank (Stephanie Fowler) Blanchard and Christian Gilbert (Kayle MacKinney) Blanchard; three stepdaughters, Hope Veronica (Chris) Jordon, Beverly Gwen (Jason) Britch, and Krista Nicole (Robert) Skow; ten grandchildren; her parents, Francisco and Lydia Olvera; and brothers, Cesar Olvera and Juan (Donna) Olvera. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home.
