Lyman Gene Kingbird, age 78, “Waabiigwaanaayaash” which means “Flower Flowing in the Wind” of Ponemah Minnesota and the Eagle Clan, began his journey to the spirit world on Monday, December 17, 2018 from the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN. He was born In Red Lake, MN on September 7, 1940, the son of Paul and Jane (Rushman) Kingbird. Lyman grew up and attended school in Ponemah.

He met Mabel Hill, the love of his life, and they were together for many years before marrying in 1992. Lyman loved spending time with his family. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and snaring rabbits for his soup.

Lyman was a true Vikings fan and is well known for his “famous outside bread”. His hobbies were bead work and going to the casino. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Family welcoming Lyman to the spirit world are his wife; Mabel Kingbird, parents; Paul and Jane Kingbird, sisters; Rosella “Joyce” Kingbird Bowstring, Josephine Urrutia Johnson and Philomene Lightfeather, brothers; Leo, John, Bobby, Jack and Johnson Kingbird and other relatives. He is survived by his daughter; Laura (James) Howard, stepchildren; Mindy Flute, Muriel Hill-Thunder, Merwin Hill and April Hill, grandchildren; James, Valerie, Chelsea, Rosella and Shawnte Howard, seven great grandchildren, special grandchildren whom he raised; Stephan and Shawna Cloud and Samantha Hill, special sister in law; Delores “Dee” Hill, many nieces, nephews, and family members. A wake for Lyman will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18th and continue until his 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Thursday, December 20th all being held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, MN.

Zac Earley, Min-di-mooye, Ty Stately and David Manuel will be his Spiritual Advisors. Pallbearers for Lyman will be Rob Roy, Mickey French, Steven Perkins, Willard Kingbird, Curtis Bowstring, James Howard, Sr and Oliver “OJ” Johnson. His honorary pallbearers are Wilber Stillday, James Howard, Jr., Delores “Dee” Hill, Patrick Urrutia, Rosalie Hill, Gladys Saragosa, Joelyn Greenleaf, Jerry Lee “Sonny” Kingbird and Harold Kingbird, Sr. Interment will be in the Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah, MN following his service.
