Obituary for Lyolya “Wickie” Wixom Winsor Lyolya “Wickie” Wixom Winsor, a resident of Gig Harbor Washington for over 30 years died January 4th 2019 in her home at the age of 91 years. Born in Logan Utah, she was raised in Utah and Wyoming and went on to attend Utah State where she met her dear Lu. They were married in April, 1948 and spent wonderful years living in National parks where Lu was a ranger while adding a daughter and 3 sons to their family.
After two decades in Atlanta Georgia they retired to Gig Harbor where they could enjoy the beauties of water, mountains and trees. Wickie loved to cook, sew, garden, read and dreamed of becoming a writer and an artist. She loved to learn and pursued knowledge her whole life.
She also loved to travel. With each new place she visited and lived she was eager to learn about the local culture, food and to befriend the people there. She lived her life in service and loving care for others; family, friends and strangers alike.
She was a force for good in the lives of everyone around her. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in numerous capacities there over her lifetime. She was actively involved in the Peninsula Art League, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge and in her local ward’s weekly humanitarian service group.
She gave to many charities and was always looking for ways to serve others. She was pre-deceased by her son, Brian, and her husband, Luther S Winsor. She is survived by her sister, Carol Egbert of Layton Utah, her daughter, Marilu Winsor Coster of Gig Harbor, her sons, Mark Winsor of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Wayne Winsor of Apex North Carolina, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus a few great greats!
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12th at the Key Center Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 12521 134th Ave NW Gig Harbor, WA 98329. Viewing and family greeting of guests will begin at 1 pm followed by the service at 2 pm. A dinner for family only will follow the service.
The family prefers donations in lieu of flowers, but prior to the funeral floral tributes may be sent to Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor, cards to 7017 78th Avenue Northwest Gig Harbor WA 98335. A graveside service will be held in Layton Utah on Monday, January 14th at 3:30 pm at Lindquist Mortuary 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah 84041. She will be laid to rest there beside her beloved Lu, her son Brian, and her parents, Earl P. Wixom and Olive C. Nunn Wixom The family wishes to express appreciation for the outpouring of love and support at this time from the many who knew and loved our Wickie.
