Lyulma “Lee” Swanson Obituary (March 22, 1944 – February 25, 2019) On Monday, February 25, 2019, Lyulma “Lee” Amanda Swanson of South Boston, Massachusetts, loving wife and proud mother and grandmother, died unexpectedly at the age of 74. Lee was born on March 22, 1944, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to Ulpiano and Lydia (Mariani) Morales. She enjoyed a happy childhood on the beach, in the rainforest, and at school with the nuns at La Academia Santa Teresita.

While attending the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, she met her future husband Ron Swanson. They married in Puerto Rico on July 11, 1968, and moved to Greenwich Village. In the following years, they lived in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, before settling in Weston, Massachusetts, to raise Carl, Monica, and Kirk.

Their lives were punctuated by vacations in Puerto Rico where Lee shared her love of that enchanted island with her family. After their children had grown, Lee and Ron lived briefly in Michigan before retiring to South Boston to enjoy city living. Lyulma is survived by her husband of nearly fifty years Ronald Swanson of South Boston, MA; son Carl Swanson of Boston, MA; daughter Monica Swanson and grandsons Edward and Evan Shea of Plymouth, MA; son Kirk Swanson, daughter-in-law Sara Swanson, and grandchildren Henry and Anna Swanson of Davidson, NC; and many friends and family, especially her long-time friend Tere Cordero and her Aunt Heidi Mariani.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Lee will be fondly remembered for making friends wherever she went, for her love of Puerto Rico and pride in her country, and – most of all – for her devotion to her family. Lee said that her greatest gifts were her children and grandchildren; she was, in fact, truly a gift to them.

Her warmth, positivity, humor, and kindness will be forever missed. Services will be held on Saturday, March 9, at Larson Funeral Home (2496 North Avenue; Bridgeport, CT); the visitation will begin at 2:00pm and will be followed by a funeral service at 4:00pm.
