OBITUARY Mable Chalker Betsill February 19, 1924 – January 5, 2019 Mable Eunice Chalker Betsill was the first child born to Dewey & Ruth Chalker in Ozark, AL on February 19, 1924. Mable relocated to Atlanta, GA to begin her professional career as a secretary for the US Army following WWII. Through her work Mable met the love of her life, William “Bill” Betsill.
Bill & Mable married on November 21, 1946 in College Park, GA and were married for 53 glorious years. They operated the 2nd generation Betsill Amoco Service Station there while raising family. Mable was a servant at heart and was greatly involved in her church, American Legion, and throughout her community.
Mable worked the election polls for more than 50 years up through the presidential elections of 2016. Mable’s favorite hobby was sewing; making clothes, beautiful quilts and all kinds of projects for those she loved and it brought her great joy making scores of baby quilts for so many in her life. The greatest pride and joy for Mable was always her family.
She provided loving care for each of her children; and then the precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren that followed. Mable attended as many recitals, ball games, graduations, and life events as possible; and enjoyed every minute of it. Mable is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; infant daughter, Connie Diana Betsill; her parents, Dewey & Ruth Chalker; sister Annie Mae Waters; and brother, Clarence Chalker.
Mable is survived by a large and loving family. Her children, Sylvia & J.W. Pace of Fayetteville, GA, Elaine & Ron Chambers of New Smyrna Beach FL; Danny & Cindy Betsill of Fayetteville, GA; siblings, Edsel Chalker and A.D. Chalker of Alabama, and Patsy Neisheim of Minnesota; grandchildren, Billy & Joy Pace, Brian & Michelle Pace, David Pace, Ashley & Tony Garcia, Tyler & Amber Betsill and William Betsill; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Joby, Lexie, Christian, Cason, Carolina, Rachel, Matthew, Amber, Alexander, and Audrey Mae. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 1st Christian Church of Tyrone, 294 Jenkins Road, Tyrone, GA 30290 .
A visitation and fellowship will immediately follow. Memorial donations may be made to S.W. Christian Hospice of Union City, GA. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all of the wonderful friends and extended family at Christian City; Tyrone Christian Church; and S.W. Christian Hospice for the love, care, support and most of all the prayers.
We know that Mable was ushered from this world into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ with much love.
