Madeline F. Sprague August 03, 1917 – January 13, 2019 Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Union-Madeline F. Sprague, 101 died Sunday morning suddenly at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro January 13, 2019. Born August 3, 1917 in Union the daughter of the late Ellen (Willey) Gorton and Carl Adjutant, and Step-Father Bill Gorton. She was a lifelong resident of Union and spent her time caring for every one of her family members putting many miles on her feet walking back and forth to her parents and sisters homes tending to them as they got on in years.

She spent her entire life in a one mile area of Union between her and her familys homes and would only leave to go to tend to her daughter in Rochester or her Grandchildren there. Many of her Grandchildren grew up in her kitchen instead of going to daycare and she loved every minute of it. She was predeceased by her son Ronald Sprague and her husband Louis Sprague and her sisters and brother .

She was the holder of the Boston Cane in Wakefield and outlived almost everyone she ever knew. Survivors include her daughters: Kathleen Stevens and Ramona Hawkins many Grandchildren and great and great great Grandchildren. The only thing that topped her love more than for her Grandchildren was her love of all animals.

She fed daily raccoons, foxes, squirrels and acquired many of her pets from anyone that couldn’t take care of them. She spent the last years of her life enjoying the company of her cats and her neighbors Rebecca N. Clough and her husband Fred E. Clough and had the constant care of her Granddaughter Lisa Hawkins. Madelines love for her family never wavered and she enriched the life of Lisa Hawkins forever and will be forever missed by her and her family.

At the time of her death she was surrounded by 5 dogs and 3 cats and couldn’t have been happier”. She was not an ordinary Grandma! ” As per her wishes there will be no services and donations can be made in her name to the Humane Society.
