Maggie Christine Thornton Langston, age 92, passed on to her Heavenly Home on January 25, 2019, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Benson, NC. She was born on March 12, 1926 to her parents, Eldridge and Pearl Thornton. Mrs. Christine worked until her retirement at the Hemco Sewing Plant in Newton Grove.

In addition, she helped with the family farming business. She was a long-time member of Mill Creek Christian Church in the Bentonville Community. Mrs. Christine was a spirited lady who worked hard and enjoyed life to the fullest, no matter what came her way.

Her determination was evident as she lived independently and drove her car up to the last four months of her life. Mrs. Christine loved the Bentonville Community and Mill Creek Church, as well as her special friends who enjoyed weekly suppers with her and celebrated birthdays together. There was an undeniable strong bond of love with her family who supported her in every possibly way, including the Saturday shopping trips and lunch with her daughter, Brenda.

Mrs. Christine has left a legacy and many wonderful memories to cherish forever for everyone who knew her. A celebration of life service will take place on Sunday, January 27, at 2:30 PM at Mill Creek Christian Church, 747 Mill Creek Church Road, Four Oaks, NC. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and other times at the home.

Officiating the service will be Rev. Jerry Burton. Burial will take place following the service in the church cemetery.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Christine was predeceased by her husband, George Horne Langston; her sons, Wayne and Andy Langston; her sisters, Rachel Barefoot, Grace Barefoot, Penny Lou Barefoot and Alene Dudley; and her brothers, Hubert Thornton, Roy Thornton and David Thornton. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters: Brenda L. Raynor and husband Chris of Newton Grove; Georgia L. Ruiz and husband Bill of Liberty, SC; Betty Jean L. Eldridge and husband Mike of Virginia. She is also survived by sisters-in- law, Edna Thornton and Wilma Thornton.

Her grandchildren, who adored her include Christen and Timothy Eldridge of Newton Grove; Christopher and Cindy Raynor of Newton Grove; and Kelly and Matt Durham of Pickens, South Carolina. “Ma Christine” was blessed by seven great-grandchildren including Ally and Landon Eldridge, Hugh and Olivia Durham, Cannon Raynor and Danielle and Andrew Eldridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in her memory to Mill Creek Christian Church, 747 Mill Creek Church Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
